In October of 1969, a group of dedicated people had the foresight to form a sports club to cater for the sporting needs of the youth in the Moorebank, Hammondville, Chipping Norton and Pleasure Point areas. They named the club the Clark Kiln United Soccer and Sports Club.
In February 1970, the name was officially changed to Moorebank Sports Club and the Department of Defence allowed the club to use the old army parade grounds at Harris Creek.
The club, supported by a petition of some 1357 local residents, requested Liverpool Council make available two playing fields at Hammondville Park and also recommended the Council apply to the Commonwealth Government for the acquisition of 16 hectares of land adjoining Hammondville Park for the development of a multi-sports complex.
Shortly after, with a great deal of assistance from club members and State Government grants, the Council upgraded Hammondville Park and it became the home of the Moorebank Sports Club.
From these formative years the Club expanded to cater for Baseball, Cricket, Netball, Rugby League, and Soccer. It has been and always will be the policy of Moorebank Sports Club to encourage, foster and promote sport and will make decisions for the long term benefit of this objective.
The future of Moorebank Sports Club is assured whilst it continues to receive the standard of support it has generously received from both current and past members over the years. |
